Is There An Effective Way To Quit Smoking?
A lot of people think they can quit smoking anytime they want. They just have
no idea how addictive cigarette smoking really is.
They don't realize that nicotine is a drug and it is a drug that is as addictive
as heroin. When you start smoking it's almost impossible to stop.
We all have different levels of addiction and we all can break that
addiction. Quitting smoking programs unfortunately are not a one-size-fits-all. You have to find out
what works for you. The ultimate goal is to quit smoking for ever and stay quit, so you have to keep trying
until you accomplish your goal. And remember this, if it's first you don't succeed try-try again. Don't
just give up. Try another approach. If you stop for a while and pick up the habit again just quit
again. You will eventually find, one day, that you are a non-smoker.
You Have To Have A Goal
One of the first things you need to do is determine why you want to quit
smoking. Is it to improve your health, save money, or is it because you don't like standing outside when
everyone else is inside and join the party! Is it because you just want to break a disgusting
habit?
Part of your goal setting is determining why you smoke. Then you have to
decide why you want to quit. This is a very important step toward becoming a non-smoker.
Cast your goal in stone, set your goal to break your cigarette smoking addiction
and you will achieve it. You will start out strong minded, steadfast and tracking toward your goal, and then your
mind will start to play tricks on you. Your mind will tell you it's okay to just have one. Well it's not
okay. You can't have just one. You have to stick to your goal. And your goal is to quit smoking for
ever.
You Need Reminders
Write down why you want to quit smoking. Pin up hese reminders everywhere. And
every time you think of having just one, go read it again. When your mind starts to play those dirty little tricks
on you, telling you to go ahead just have one. Go read your goals, put them everywhere, make them the easy to get
to and see. Put up a nasty pictures too. Pictures of black lungs, people on oxygen tanks. This will remind you of
where you will be before you know it. This will reinforce your goal to become a non-smoker.
Get Rid Of Ashtrays and Lighters
Get rid of and put away anything that pertains to smoking. Throw your
cigarettes away. Get rid of the ashtrays and lighters too. Clean your car out and make it smell new
again. They are your house out. Get candles and air freshener's. Change the smells around you. Don't just
stick your cigarettes and lighters in your drawer. Doing that is just saving them for later. Later, is a life
without cigarettes, which will require no lighters and no ashtrays. This helps to get your head straight right out
of the gate.
Stay Away From Second Hand Smoke
You probably have friends and family that are smokers. Stay away from them for a
while. They will not encourage your efforts. Stay away from bars, restaurants, parties, and anywhere else where
smoking is going on.
You have to avoid being in a smoking environment, at least for two to three
weeks. It takes about 21 days to form a habit. So why would you want to hinder your new habit, you know being
a non-smoker! After a while you will gradually be able to join in where smoking is going on. Just don't
do it for the first two to three weeks. If you do you will only make it tougher on yourself.
